The Okanagan Valley lies along the shores of Okanagan Lake and the Monashees, Cascade and Coastal mountain range. Just a 3 ½ hour drive from the Vancouver Lower Mainland, the Okanagan is a world-class vacation destination. Hot, sunny summers and mild winters offer tourists and residents an outdoor paradise of year round adventure! Water skiing, snow skiing or boarding, mountain biking or snow-mobiling, hiking or snow shoeing, fishing or ice fishing, boating, sailing or golfing, are just some of the ways to enjoy life here year-round. The Okanagan lifestyle also welcomes a bounty of fresh fruits grown in local orchards during the summer and celebrates the harvest of grapes for producing fine wines at local vineyards in the fall.
The Central Okanagan is comprised of five communities; Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, Westside/Westbank, and Joe Rich. With a population base of approximately 150,000, Kelowna is the largest city in the Central Okanagan Valley maintaining 63% of that population base. Well known for its tourism, tree fruit and forestry industry, along with truck and boat manufacturing, the Okanagan Valley has matured into a first class golf/ski destination and world class wine producer with a new and evolving high-tech sector merging into the community. High technology firms are multiplying at a faster rate in the Central Okanagan than for all of British Columbia. This growing technology sector includes aerospace development and services as well as engineering and scientific/technical services.
Boasting a new airport expansion, Kelowna is now the 3rd busiest airport in British Columbia and 11th busiest in Canada. And a budding arts and cultural community includes Prospera Place; a new 6,000 seat multi-purpose facility, the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra; the 3rd largest symphony orchestra in British Columbia, professional theatre companies, museums and art galleries - yours to enjoy just steps away from the downtown waterfront.
Among the largest employers in the Central Okanagan are health and education institutions. Kelowna General Hospital is the largest and most comprehensive hospital in the southern British Columbia interior and includes a full treatment cancer clinic. Okanagan University College has 2 campuses in Kelowna and is planning a major expansion at the North Kelowna campus of the College. Thanks to diversification, entrepreneurship and a great location, Kelowna's economy remains strong and exciting!
Enjoy the superb quality of life the Central Okanagan has to offer!
